Project Duration: 1 October 2025 – 30 September 2029

Project Summary:

PerformART is conceived as a transdisciplinary artistic research platform focused on the analysis, reinterpretation, and production of contemporary performance practices in the fields of vocal, instrumental, vocal–instrumental, and vocal–stage arts. At the core of the project is the redefinition of musical performance as a complex, intermedial, and socially relevant act that integrates sound, space, technology, and the audience in line with new performative tendencies.

The project brings together research and production activities of university faculty members, students, and national and international artists through five work packages encompassing: research into historical and contemporary performance practices, artistic production, education and innovation in higher education, dissemination of results through open science, and international visibility and promotion. By introducing experimental approaches to the voice, body, instrument, and performance space, PerformART establishes new models of music-theatre performance aligned with current aesthetic, technological, and social trends.

Project outcomes include scholarly and artistic publications, performances and audiovisual releases, the development of educational tools, and the strengthening of international collaboration and visibility. In this way, the project makes a significant contribution to the development of contemporary performance practices and innovation in the field of musical art.

Project Objective

The main objective of the project is to explore the ambivalence of artistic expression in musical and music-theatre performance practices across different stylistic periods, to develop innovative performance models that integrate contemporary musical-interpretative, theatrical, and technological elements, and to promote science and the arts.

Other project objectives include:

  • To research and document historical and contemporary performance practices in vocal and instrumental music.

  • To extend the life of the classical repertoire through contemporary reinterpretations.

  • To develop and present contemporary performance models in musical art.

  • To connect music with technology and stage practices.

  • To create educational tools and methods for performers.

  • To involve students in creative processes and performance.

  • To ensure the accessibility of project results to the wider public and professionals.

  • To encourage open access to knowledge and performance materials.

  • To strengthen the international presence of researchers and performers.

  • To popularize scientific and artistic work.

Additional project objectives:

  • To enhance artistic and scientific excellence through innovative research, the strengthening of international artistic and scientific cooperation, contributions to open science, and the interdisciplinarity of artistic and scholarly work.

  • To strengthen collaboration with cultural institutions and higher education institutions in an international context.

  • To contribute to the development of national and regional identity and culture.

  • To increase the relevance, quality, and effectiveness of studies through the improvement of study programs.

  • To promote an interdisciplinary approach to musical performance through collaboration among musicians, performing artists, and technological experts.

  • To extend the lifespan and relevance of the classical repertoire through contemporary reinterpretations.

  • To create educational materials and platforms for transferring acquired knowledge and methods to professionals and young performers.
